Abuse can take many forms, and recognising them is a vital first step in protecting children from harm. Under Irish child protection guidelines, the four main categories are physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect. These forms of abuse rarely occur in isolation, and a child may experience more than one type at the same time. All staff and volunteers at Athlone FRC are trained to recognise the signs of abuse and understand their responsibilities in relation to child safeguarding.
